El Maestro Inc. is a community organization that promotes and supports social and cultural development within the Puerto Rican, Latin American, and Caribbean community residing in the South Bronx. Focused on aiding its intended audience to adapt and develop within the environment they now live in without losing its culture and identity as Puerto Ricans, El Maestro has chosen three basic line of work in order to achieve this result: Sports, Culture, and support in navigating the challenges of the system. It offers activities and programs for all age groups and demographics within the community (male and female children, adolescents, adults of various ethnicities: White, Hispanic, Latino, African-American, Black), and builds bridges of understanding between the Puerto Rican community and the wider community within the area. This requires constant work and funds in order to keep the center running as well as the specific programs and activities it is now known for and the community has come to expect.
El Maestro provides a safe haven for new immigrants who often work in dangerous places and conditions; advocates for the well-being of children, youths and adults through the implementation of sports, arts, and cultural programs and events; and support the progressive agendas our community advances. It strives to improve the quality of life of people in the community through social activities such as sports programs and events, cultural festivals and events and educational programs. It focuses on grassroots activism as a means of strengthening our community. El Maestro, Inc. is a sports, cultural and educational oasis in the heart of the South Bronx, where all aspects of Puerto Rican culture, history and identity are nurtured, developed and made available to the wider community of New York City.
